These photographs capture reflections on the inner-city surface of the Yarra River (Birrarung). In this tidal stretch, where the salt and fresh water meet, the river often appears characteristically ‘muddy.’ Rather than reinforcing this familiar view, these works fix an ever-moving skin of water—where bridges, buildings, and sky are distorted and reassembled—holding moments that would otherwise pass unnoticed. In this way, the works present a well-known landscape in terms that defy conventional expectation. Being recognisable and transformed, the urban river can be seen as a living entity, and source of enduing inspiration.
