Russell Mason is a Melbourne-based commercial photographer whose professional work specialises in product photography and corporate events. But when he steps away from client briefs, Russell heads out into the streets, camera in hand, to pursue a passion that is worlds apart from his commercial work: street photography.
Drawn to the raw, unpredictable, and often imperfect beauty of everyday urban life, Russell embraces the contrast between the controlled studio and the spontaneous street. A lover of analogue photography, he often shoots on film, hand crafting the final image in the darkroom.
Russell shoots on the street to stay curious, stay human, and capture the unscripted beauty of everyday life.

My photographs uncover the hidden, discarded, and overlooked fragments of the city, things left behind, thrown away, or previously hidden. By rediscovering these urban remnants, I reinterpret their meaning and give them new life through the camera’s lens, inviting viewers to see the beauty, story, and significance in what’s often ignored or forgotten. My work transforms the lost and the abandoned into visual moments of reflection, reconnecting us to the subtle details that shape our shared environment.
These photographs not only uncover the hidden and discarded objects of the urban landscape, but they themselves have taken on a new lease of life — rediscovered after being tucked away in the depths of a hard drive.
