Caleb Bishop

My name is Caleb Bishop, I am a photographer based in Melbourne and originally from Sydney. My works convey an interaction between urban environments and people past and present, and how these interactions have created the unique character of the space. I work mainly with 35mm film, with high contrast black & white, as well as oversaturated colour films. I aim to explore how naturally chaotic and imbalanced elements in the space harmoniously synchronise, from what superficially appears to be volatile, disconnected, and independent - reminding us of the cyclical passage of time, and capturing moments of ethereal stillness and other-worldliness from dynamic chaos. Through my lens, I strive to reveal the small moments where disorder transforms into unity.

The work I present blends a theme of inconspicuous relics, buried in urban environments. My photography aims to illuminate the decaying of urban build up, overlooked amidst the fast paced and ever-changing dense urban environment of Melbourne and Sydney's inner-cities. The buildings photographed have all been left behind in a new world; diamonds in the rough, discarded by the passage of time, bearing in the future.

lost and found through depictions of Melbourne and Sydney's inner cities, a fast paced, highly dense urban environment that is ever changing. The buildings photographed have all been left behind in a new world. Diamonds in the rough waiting to be found and brought into the future, bearing the imprints of time itself.
