Anastasiya Matantseva

My practice reinterprets traditional Ukrainian dress, materials, and artisanal techniques into modern silhouettes, with a strong focus on textile exploration. I enjoy working hands-on with materials, gently blending vintage and secondhand textiles with newer fabrics. Central to the work is an exploration of the relationship between material and memory, where touch, texture, and wear carry emotional resonance.
At its core, the work embodies feminine care and touch, expressed through meticulous handcraft and ethereal, moody aesthetics designed to evoke curiosity.
Guided by social and environmental responsibility, I utilise repurposed garments and deadstock fabrics. By merging archival research with a functional shop, my practice celebrates intangible cultural heritage while advocating for a more ethical and emotionally resonant fashion industry.

I am a fashion designer interested in exploring and developing textiles through memory, culture, and materiality. I am developing a body of work informed by my cultural background and childhood memories from growing up in Ukraine. The work draws on specific sensory and textural recollections, such as the beaded massage seat covers in my grandfather’s car. I re-explore these familiar textures through unexpected materials and forms, translating memory into object. The beaded bag references the visual language of the car seat cover, evoking recognition through texture while existing in a completely different context and medium.
