Jo Garner

Jo has been using 'rescued' materials in her work for many years. Beginning with mosaics using discarded china, they now focus on collage and assemblage in their practice.

The discarded and unwanted ephemera of people's lives and society can become something of beauty and be viewed in a positive way. Gathering, sorting, and finding ways to bring pieces together is Jo's way of finding joy and creating something new.

I 'rescued' a family's large slide collection from the 60-80's. I was fascinated by the packaging and the vibrant yellow and orange colours. These are now presented to the viewer in a totally different way, while still indicating and celebrating the prior history of the items.

'Slide' shows were a reason to gather socially and chronicled the journeys and important family events. We now use social media to do this. I am bringing back the slide show!
