Afterglow
Open Call Group Exhibition
In the depth of Melbourne’s winter, we invite artists to contribute work that warms the soul. Open to all artistic mediums, Afterglow explores light as both a physical and emotional presence, from glow and reflection to shadow and the lingering traces of memory.
Light has the ability to shape how we experience a moment or place. It can illuminate, obscure, soften, or transform. Yet even after it fades, something often remains. Warmth in the air, colour in the sky, reflections in passing, or the quiet imprint of something that has come and gone.
Afterglow draws on the atmosphere of winter nights, where darkness is punctuated by moments of illumination. We invite artists to respond to both the presence of light and what it leaves behind.
Submissions may explore light literally or conceptually. This could include works that incorporate illumination, reflection, projection, or glowing materials, as well as works that consider memory, atmosphere, and the subtle residue of experience.
We are particularly interested in works that bring a sense of warmth, intimacy, or quiet presence into the space, transforming Kindred Cameras into a place of light within the dark.
While works that incorporate or interact with light are especially encouraged, this callout is open to all mediums.
Submissions may explore:
light as a material, including illumination, projection, or glow
reflection, shadow, and the interplay between light and darkness
moments of transition, such as dusk, fading light, or shifting atmosphere
memory, presence, and the lingering traces of a place or experience
subtle warmth, quiet intimacy, or the feeling of something that remains
Afterglow seeks work that captures what lingers after illumination fades, inviting viewers to sit with the warmth, memory, and presence that remain.

No. Artworks do not need to be listed for sale to be included in the exhibition. Artists may choose whether or not their work is available for purchase.
-
If an artwork is for sale and a buyer is interested, we will put the buyer directly in touch with the artist to organise payment and collection.
If an artist would prefer Kindred Cameras to handle the sale on their behalf, this can be arranged for a per-artwork administration fee, which will be outlined to selected artists.
-
Yes! Installation, sculptural, or non-traditional works are welcome. We have a limited number of plinths available for 3D work, and a TV and projector for video or media-based works.
Please clearly outline any installation requirements, space needs, or technical considerations in your submission so we can plan accordingly.
-
All works will be hung or installed directly onto the wall. Artworks do not need a specific mounting system.
Unframed prints will generally be hung using Command strips, which are the least likely method to damage the artwork. There is a small possibility of minor marking to the back of the print, but this avoids puncturing or otherwise harming the work. Artists may also request pins or magnets; if using magnets, the artist will need to supply them.
Framed works/works on canvas will be mounted directly to the wall using screws, ensuring a secure display.
Please include any hanging or installation preferences in your submission so we can accommodate them wherever possible.
-
Kindred Cameras will handle curation and installation. Artists will be contacted if additional support or specific installation input is required.
-
