Jacklyn Foster

Jacklyn Foster is a contemporary Australian artist based in Mildura, Victoria, whose practice elevates the rituals of domestic life into vibrant, nostalgic compositions. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Foster employs an intuitive and reflective approach to capture the colors, textures, and emotional resonance of the kitchen and dining space. Her work serves as a celebratory exploration of shared meals, Sunday dinners, and the quiet, meaningful moments that define family and community connection.

Foster’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions and includes high-profile collaborations with brands such as Mont Marte Art Supplies and Greens Baking Australia. Her portfolio also encompasses significant large-scale public projects, including commissions for the Royal Children’s Hospital and the RSPCA.

A recipient of the Fortyfivedownstairs 2021 Emerging Artist Award, Foster was recently selected as the 2025 Spotlight Stores Artist in Residence for the Melbourne Royal Show. Through her paintings, she seeks to transform the everyday into the extraordinary, bringing a sense of comfort, joy, and profound connection to the contemporary home.

In this work, the paint tube, is reimagined as a study of deviation. By organising my own used paint tubes into a formal arrangement, the composition highlights the inherent beauty found in their variety.

Each tube serves as a tactile record of my creative process; the specific bends, irregular creases, and varied levels of depletion reflect a unique history of use. Some remain full and upright, while others are heavily squished and distorted by the pressure of artistic labor. These anomalies transform uniform, industrial tools into personal artefacts of human interaction. By elevating these inconsistencies, the work celebrates the beauty of the individual tube, and how it has been utilised in my creative space.
