James Annesley
James Annesley is a Melbourne-based photographer working across digital and 35mm film formats. His work ranges from urban landscapes to ethereal nudes, often using long exposure techniques to evoke a ghost-like quality.
Originally from Adelaide, James has a background in jazz and electronic music but has made photography his main creative outlet in recent years.
James was a finalist in the 2025 No Vacancy Annual and has exhibited in various galleries around Melbourne, including Brunswick Street Gallery, Linden New Art, Off the Kerb, and Red Gallery.
He prefers to let his images speak for themselves, avoiding lengthy explanations in favour of direct visual expression.

These works were shot on black and white film, using an unconventional long-exposure technique to give the figures a transparent, ghost-like quality. "Upstairs" has been turned upside down to create a feeling of disorientation, while "Gemini" captures the model in two different poses during a single 30 second exposure.
