These pieces are a rejection of creating art with AI because that can be constantly tweaked until the image is perfect.
My artworks have blemishes and mistakes that can’t be “deleted”. They’re a part of the story, showing the birth and process of their creation.
Whilst drawing these pieces for Yiayia’s House, I reflected on the stories my own Yiayia and Papou have shared around migrating to Australia and settling in country VIC.
I connected to their experiences, in my own way, through using chalk pastels for the first time. Getting my hands dirty, creating something from nothing, and by reusing materials because Yiayia never throws anything out.
I found these old frames in country town op shops, sitting there collecting dust.
I wanted to give them a new purpose and another chance to bring joy to someone new, just as they did once before, for another.
The act of passing these pieces on creates an invisible thread that connects us all through sharing, and builds a sense of community, which is exactly what Yiayia’s House is and has always been about.
