We consider the world as we see it to be objective reality. But mantis shrimp see 10 times more colour than humans. And some birds of prey effectively see the world in slow motion. So what is reality?

Lucas Testro’s long-exposure street photography transforms Melbourne’s streets into otherworldly spaces where abstract swirls resolve into new patterns and possibilities. Working with slow shutter speeds, then adjusting colour balance and light levels, he changes the “eye” of the camera to explore the subjectiveness of “reality”.

Drawing on notions from free association writing and spirit photography, the images in his expressionist street photography transcend the physical streets to suggest stories about our deeper psychological lives.
